Solar Flare?

Supposedly there is something in the air. Something that allows a broom to stand straight up by itself. Check it out. How weird?

Brennan was skeptical. So while I was home for a quick trip to see the fam I tried it out. The trick is to get the broom facing true north south, I guess that's when the solar flare comes in. Who knows, but it looks real creepy just standing there.

New York State Psychiatric Institute

This summer I will be working at the New York State Psychiatric Institute as a social work intern on the Eating Disorder Unit. Yikes! The NYSPI is one of the leading research institutes in mental health. It provides FREE treatment for those participating in the research programs.

I have worked with at-risk youth for the last five years, and although I love working with this population, I'm ready to venture out. What will pull me out of my comfort zone, challenge me, stretch me, and rock my world more then severe mental health? I want to learn more about human behavior, what makes our brains tick, what causes a psychotic break, and how to work with those in the midst of one. It's rigorous, intense, and scary. And that's exactly what I need. I think I'm ready, but we'll see.

TJ Maxx

I was killing time at the TJ Maxx in Columbus Circle the other day and walked by these. I saw them, thought nothing of it, and kept on walking. I then slowly stopped, reversed, and said, "Wait a minute...I'm in New York, not Roseville. What the heck!?!"

How cool is that? So weird. Minnesota is just that cool.

Nets Game

Do you know you can get Nets tickets for only $5? Crazy. So we took the train to Jersey to enjoy some bball.

Reid and Pete really hit if off and were enjoying the game intensely.

Brennan and I on the other hand were bored. Well, I was bored and roped Brennan into my boredom.

This is what happened.

And then I ask Brennan questions like this: "Would you still love me if I looked like this?" And he normally replies, "Of course." But, this time there was some hesitation. I understand. About the game, I'm not even sure who won. Oh well. Go Nets!

Magnolia Bakery

I love bakeries! The more you get to know me, the more you will realize that I am always thinking about donuts, baked goods, and other delicious decadents. I blame my dad for this. Every Saturday morning he would bring home donuts from Dan and Gerry's bakery in Chatfield. I have yet to find a maple long john that matches that amazing goodness. So, my dream of someday working in a bakery started at a young age. Of course, it's idealized. I don't picture myself getting up at 4 a.m. and spending all day in a hot kitchen. I picture the fun stuff. Working in a cute, adorable little spot that feels warm and smells delicious, where I'm frosting the most amazing and beautiful donuts and cookies. Oh, and I'm in France.

The other night B and I were walking around the nicest spot in the West Village and stumbled upon Magnolia. A bakery that glowed from the street and seemed quite busy, even at 10 p.m. We stepped in and this is what I saw:

Cakes and cakes and cakes! And cupcakes and cookies and chocolate and everything cute and wonderful in life. I'm sure I squealed with delight, and maybe even teared up. When you step into a bakery like that, everything just feels right in the world.

My mission: I will uncover every bakery in New York City to find my perfect maple long john. Oh Dan and Gerry, look what you've created.

Silver Ball

NYU held their annual Silver Ball a couple weeks ago for the Silver School of Social Work. It's on the 10th floor overlooking Washington Square Park. So beautiful. So Brennan and I dressed in our finest and nerded out with my fellow social workers.

And here's the view. Not too shabby.
